In recent months Promove UK Ltd has received two major orders for its emergency evacuation sling from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) and Central Scotland FRS.
Launched just over a year ago the emergency evacuation device manufacturer is now in its second year of trading and going from strength to strength. One in three of all UK FRS has trialled the Promove sling and to date, well over half of these have purchased with more intending to do so..
William Robb from Central Scotland FRS said: “Having faced the challenges of handling bariatric individuals we were keen to trial the Promove sling and immediately saw what a versatile rescue device it is.
He adds: “Its capacity to handle bariatric individuals was a major consideration but its ability to handle any size of individual with comfort and dignity was very important. We envisage we will be using the Promove sling in a whole range of situations in future.”
The sling is designed for moving and handling an incapacitated individual in confined or outdoor spaces where a hoist cannot be used. The unique design of the Promove sling means it can be placed under an individual whether they are in a vehicle or stuck in a corner, cubicle or bath. It works whether the individual is seated, reclined or prone as the individual does not have to be rolled to get the sling under them.
The sling allows a casualty to be moved without being manhandled and with the least risk to the operator. It has been independently tested to move a range of different sized individuals, from children as young as eleven years old to large adults weighing up to 45 stone. The use of additional handles for bariatric casualties means that up to eight operatives can share the load.
Once in place the Promove sling provides good support, forming a bucket shaped seat, giving a sense of security for moving and transferring and keeping the individual’s upper body in a raised position, which is vital if a bariatric person is having breathing difficulties.
Dr Huw Thomas, the designer and a director of Promove UK Ltd said: “I’m delighted that so many fire and rescue teams have taken the unique capabilities of the sling on board, this will demonstrate to others the usefulness of this piece of equipment for rescue and evacuation.”
