Eureka! for Promove at this years British Invention Show

Promove, the emergency evacuation device is delighted to be participating at this years British Invention Show at Alexandra Palace in London from the 15th – 18th October.

The three-and-a-half-day show, now in its eighth year, is run in association with the British Inventors Society and enjoys support from government partners including the IPO (Formerly the UK patent office) and business link.

The sling will be exhibited as part of the Wales Innovators Network (WIN) – part of the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) – and is designed for moving and handling incapacitated or disabled, including bariatric individuals in confined or outdoor spaces where a hoist cannot be used.

It allows an individual to be moved without being manhandled and with the least risk to the operator and has been independently tested to carry a range of different sized individuals, from children to large adults weighing up to 45 stone (290kgs).

The Promove sling was launched last year at the Emergency Services Show, and has been on trials with several fire and rescue teams, ambulance authorities, local authorities and mountain rescue teams across the UK since its launch.

As a direct result of feedback from the trials, the company has developed new, bespoke padded handles - designed to assist with the moving and handling of heavier casualties and provided as part of the package for the emergency services.

Dr Huw Thomas, creator of the Promove sling explains: “We are delighted to be exhibiting as part of WIN at this years show. It’s taken us about two years to get from prototype stage to manufacturing and marketing, which is significantly faster than what we had imagined. This is as a result of the invaluable help and support we have had from WIN”.

Promove will be exhibited on the WIN stand along with 11 other working group members, who have all recently taken their product to market and are looking to raise awareness of their products.

Other exhibitors at the event will be:

  • Mr Dean and Luke Andrews of Cardiff - Guardian Drinks holder for rest rooms
  • Mr John Arundel of Treharris - Brakeaware Brake Light Tester
  • Mrs Katy Buckley of Ynysmon - Mamaflage® - Poncho to allow breastfeeding in public
  • Mr Paul Dorricott of Colwyn Bay - The Jundor Barbeque Blower
  • Mr Mike Farr of Ystrad Mynach - Topster Milk Carton Pourers
  • Mrs Janet Matthew of Bridgend - Over The Top Pouch - Personal Storage for Pupils!
  • Ms Jane Matthews of Barry - Plug Pal - safety storage device for plugs when not in use
  • Ms Yvonne Miller and Amanda Rees of Ammanford - Bamba® - Baby Signing Kits - Helping Children Communicate Early
  • Mrs Gaynor Morgan of Swansea - IncoStress® - Controls Female Incontinence
  • Mr Bradley Young of Betws-y-coed - Orgatise – text scheduling software

The new handles are made from webbing which is surrounded by a soft, pliable plastic moulding. The handles have been tailor made for the sling to ensure a more comfortable and easier grip for emergency rescue teams when handling bariatric victims.

Promove is easily placed beneath an incapacitated person whether lying on the ground, seated in a chair or restricted in a tight corner. It provides good support, forming a bucket shaped seat, giving a sense of security for moving and transferring.

The sling can be used with a transfer board and / or glide sheet to assist in the safe handling of individuals, particularly if they have no upper body strength and cannot assist with the transfer. Promove was designed by a disabled person with input from moving and handling specialists in Fire and Rescue, Ambulance and Health care.

The sling is now routinely sold to the emergency services, social services, schools and individuals.
